There is no doubt that Alexa was one of the best ideas Amazon had from the past few years. This product became just as popular as the Echo one that they launched a year ago since its release. This smart speaker called Alexa can make our lifestyle certainly comfier since we just need to talk to make it perform the activity we want. But, what we can do when alexa won’t connect to wifi at all?

Well, it’s practically the same as when the Amazon Echo won’t connect to WiFi. If your Alexa or any Echo dot you own won’t connect to WiFi, there are many reasons behind it. To decipher why Alexa is not connecting to the internet, or in case you are having trouble connecting Alexa to your internet, In TechinDroid we have written down some basic helpful tips that can help you fix your problem.

Note! Echo devices connect to dual bandwidth wifi networks (2.4 or 5 GHz) that use the 802.11a / b / g / n band. The Echo devices won’t connect to WiFi via ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) networks since they’re not compatible with that kind of network.

How to Fix When Alexa Won’t Connect to WiFi 2024

First, try this solution

1. On Echo devices with a screen: If the light on your device is orange, your device’s Wi-Fi connection does not work as expected. To find out which Wi-Fi network you are connected to go to Settings and select Wi-Fi.

2. Make sure you know the network password (if necessary). If you see a lock icon, you must enter the password of the WiFi network. This password is not the password of your Amazon account.

3. Update the router’s firmware or modem’s hardware in case it’s outdated.

4. By default, the router may use WPA and WPA2 at the same time for security. To solve connection problems, change the security type of the router to WPAor WPA2 If the router also has an option that allows you to choose the type of coding, configure this option only in AES.

Reboot the Echo device and the WiFi router

Restarting your Echo device, the modem and the router can solve most of the problems of the Wi-Fi network.

1. Turn off the router and the modem, and wait 30 seconds.

2. Turn on the modem and wait for it to boot up.

3. After restarting the modem, turn on the router again and wait for it to completely boot.

4. While the network hardware restarts, unplug the power adapter from your Echo device for three seconds and then plug it back in again.

5. After restarting your Echo device and network hardware, try connecting to the Wi-Fi network again.

Tip: If the problem persists after the restart, Reset the default settings of the Echo device.

To restore the device’s default settings, follow these steps:

  • On your Echo’s Screen swipe down from the top and select “Settings”.
  • Select “Device Options” and then “Reset to Factory Defaults”. This will completely erase all the informations and device settings.
  • Once you have done with this process try to connect the WiFi network again.

Do you have problems with the Wi-Fi network password?

If you saved your Wi-Fi network password on Amazon but, you have changed it recently, you have to re-enter your Wi-Fi network password to reconnect.

You can save the Wi-Fi network passwords on Amazon by re-running the Wi-Fi network configuration process of all compatible devices. When you have reconnected to your Wi-Fi network, the updated Wi-Fi password will be automatically saved in Amazon.

Reduce the Load & Check Coverage of your Wi-Fi network

If you have several devices in your Wi-Fi network, the performance of the Wi-Fi can be affected by that.

Turn off devices that you are not using to free the network bandwidth.

Put the device closer to the router and the modem if it is in another room or if there is an object blocking it.

Make sure the device is away from possible sources of interference (such as microwaves or baby monitoring devices).

(Optional) Connect the device to the router’s 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency band (in case you have any). Many Wi-Fi devices can only connect to the 2.4 GHz band. If there are several devices that use this band on the network, the network may be slower. You can connect to the 5 GHz band, which is less saturated, so there is less interference and the connection is better.

Contact your Internet provider, the router manufacturer or the network administrator

If still Alexa won’t connect to WiFi after everything you did, find out if there are other devices that can connect to the network (such as tablets or mobile phones). If you cannot connect, the problem may be with your Wi-Fi network. Contact your Internet provider, network administrator or the person who set up your network for help.
